The connection between medical marijuana and Parkinson’s disease
Known as one of the worst neurodegenerative diseases, PD causes a person to not be able to regulate their movement. A person suffering from PD experiences sleep disturbance, balance issues, muscle stiffness, slowed movement and tremors and uncontrollable shakes that are caused by the destruction of neurons that are directly in charge of producing and releasing dopamine in the area of the brain that regulates movement.
Unfortunately, there is no cure for such a disease although there are some options when it comes to treatment. Still, many patients that receive standard therapy tend to experience very negative side effects so to them, the only alternative left would be medical marijuana. On a good side, cannabinoid medicine has been proven to provide the relief up to some instances.
Numerous studies showed that cannabinoids can prevent neurons from destruction as they can act as neuroprotective agents. Let me tell you right away, this is more than a revelation. This is a very good news for all PD patients as they can get some hope that the cure is on the way.
After the consumption of cannabis, PD patients tend to instantly feel relief from the usual symptoms such as chronic pain, anxiety, depression, weakness, dyskinesia, rigidity, inflexibility, stiffness, tremor and overall motor impairment and disability.
The level of relief that these people feel after cannabis consumption is truly stellar and it is an obvious indication that cannabis could be extremely helpful to all those who suffer from Parkinson’s Disease. There is still a long way to go until the doctors and scientists are completely able to harness the full potential of cannabinoids in order to fully realize all of the neuroprotective effects of medical marijuana.
There are some cases right here in Colorado that some patients who suffered from Leukemia managed to almost cure their disease completely through a controlled use of cannabis oil. The truth is, cannabis is still seen as a natural and alternative medicine and therefore can’t be fully acknowledged in the treatment of serious diseases and illnesses.
